SOUTH Lakeland District Council was the brains behind a successful business and networking event staged at Kendal Town Hall.
More than 50 people attended the ‘future high street’ event and organisers said the feedback was excellent.
It was hosted by Coun Giles Archibald, the council’s portfolio holder for town centres and small business.
It featured a talk by Chris Wade, chief executive of Action for Market Towns, on ‘retail within the wider role of town centres’.
There was also a presentation by Cathy Hart, a lecturer in retail studies from Loughborough University, on town centre consumers and the way people shop today.
And local store manager Dan Morley, from Beales department store, at Finkle Street, spoke about running a retail business in South Lakeland and gave an update on the progress of Kendal’s Business Improvement District (BID) project.
