A BUSY mum who juggles two children with running her own international business has made the finals of a major competition.

Amanda Peffer set up clothing brand Blade & Rose in 2010 while on maternity leave with her second child and runs it from Kendal

Four years later, the limited company now has over 200 account holders in the UK, employs husband Jon, 36, and is taking on its first member of staff. Amanda, 41, has now made the finals in the Mumpreneur Awards which celebrates parents throughout the UK who manage juggling business with family life.

She said: “I am delighted to have been recognised for my achievements and I'm really excited to find out if I've won!"

Amanda, originally from Sheffield, has lived in Kendal for 11 years and previously worked in sales for Red Bull.

While on maternity leave, she tried to find a particular style of child's leggings but was unable too, so decided to set up her own and now markets her 'innovative, funky, high quality baby leggings'.

Of balancing work and family, Amanda said: "It's hard work but I work full time anyway, I'm my own boss and running my own business allows more flexibility with child care."

The business name Blade & Rose takes its name from the middle names of her children, who are now aged seven and five.

Now in her fourth year of business, she has over 100 customers throughout Europe, as well as agents in USA, Germany and Switzerland, with distributors in New Zealand, Australia, the Middle East and Taiwan.

Yet the company is run from just a modest unit on the Shap Road Industrial Estate.

For the awards, she has been shortlisted for the 'Reach' category, which is open to businesses trading on an International basis.

Amanda is also in with a chance of winning the title 'Inspirational Business Mum 2014'.

This is awarded to the mum who is an inspiration to all women in business.

A panel of top entrepreneurs will judge Amanda's but she'll have to wait until November 8, when the winners will be announced at The Mumpreneur Conference and Awards in Warwickshire.

The event is open to all parents who juggle family and business, and also for those interested in taking the plunge and starting up. Tickets prices start at just £49, and can be purchased through the Mumpreneur UK website - www.mumpreneuruk.com
