CARNFORTH-headquartered Pure Leisure Group is close to selling its luxury residential golf resort in Barbados.

Owned by former farmer turned millionaire John Morphet, the 750 acre Royal Westmoreland estate was put on the market in March 2015.

It is a private estate and includes holiday homes owned by footballer Wayne Rooney and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan.

The existing site includes 225 holiday homes, golfing clubhouse, spa, restaurants and its own private beach.

The news of the imminent sale comes as the group has posted results featuring a near-£10m rise in turnover.

With strong sales growth at its UK holiday parks and the golf resort in Barbados, Pure Leisure Group upped turnover for continuing operations to £35m in the year ending 31 January 2015, up by 31 per cent on a year earlier.

The UK contributed £18m in turnover in 2014/15 compared to £15.8m in 2013/14, while the West Indies generated £17.9m in 2014/15 up from £10.8m a year earlier.

The group also posted pre-tax profits of £671,000 as opposed to losses of £10.9m in the prior year.

And it reported operating profits of £3.1m compared to losses of £9.1m previously.

Pure Leisure Group's accounts cover the performance of South Lakeland Leisure Village and the Villa Fishery, both near Carnforth, Billing Aquadrome and Cogenhoe Mill in Northamptonshire, Tydd St Giles in Cambridgeshire and Bridlington Links in East Yorkshire, and the Yealands in Lancashire.

In August 2015, the group revealed plans to invest £2m in the development of a new park opposite the group's flagship South Lakeland Leisure Village.

The scheme at Carnforth will offer a range of holiday accommodation options.

There will be a total of 138 two-bedroom properties.

Residents will have access to all of the facilities of the sister site including a swimming pool, a gym and spa complex, a bar and a restaurant.
