A LUXURY Lake District hotel is set to unveil a new £1million building designed to house its staff.

The three storey building at the Langdale Chase Hotel, Windermere, has taken just under a year to complete and will be opened by South Lakes MP Tim Farron on April 4.

Thomas Noblett, managing director, said: "Our workforce is one of the most important assets we have, they are the foundations of the hotel, and we believe their comfort and wellbeing is paramount. We look after our staff so that they are better able to look after our guests."

Mr Noblett said difficulties in attracting local staff means many are being sourced from other parts of the UK and EU countries, who also face problems with housing.

He said: "One of the most difficult challenges within the hotel industry is attracting high calibre staff.

"Locally, there is a lack of affordable housing, with the costs of living far outstretching wages within the industry, making it difficult for people to move to the area who wish to seek employment within hospitality.

"Additional to this, many hotels are remotely located and local transport links do not operate to the hours demanded by the work, making it impossible for people without transport to commute from the towns."

The brand new staff accommodation block will house up to thirty staff members in state-of-the-art bedrooms and self contained apartments with private en-suite facilities and a common area with Wi-fi for socialising.
