Party time at aquarium

ONE of South Lakeland's most popular attractions is marking its tenth birthday in style next week with a series of events.

The Aquarium of the Lakes, at Lakeside, is running a five-day birthday party from July 23-27, and marketing manager Cathy Burrows, who has been at the helm of promotions and publicity since the attraction first opened, has ordered a massive 28-inch birthday cake to mark the occasion.

The cake, which has been specially made by Icing on the Cake, in Kendal, is due to be unveiled on Tuesday, July 24, when it is hoped visitors will help to blow out the candles.

Britain's only freshwater aquarium, which traces the journey of water from the Cumbrian fells to the coast, has attracted more than 1.5 million visitors over the past decade.
