Jeremy Hall puts the finishing touches to a piece of furniture
A TEAM of bespoke furniture craftsmen have celebrated their firm’s 40- year milestone.
Staff at Peter Hall and Son are preparing for a party after four decades of work at the Danes Road base, in Staveley.
The business now employs 18 staff who specialise in restoration, upholstery and interior design – and has taken on four apprentices to help keep crafting skills within Cumbria.
General manager Fiona High, who has been with the firm for eight years, said they were still passionate about their products.
“We take great pride in the furniture items we create,” she said.
“A British furniture making company can’t compete with large overseas firms on price but customers come to us because they know they will get something beautiful that will last for years.”
This week the firm will exhibit several specialist pieces in Cheltenham at an exhibition celebrating craftsmanship and design.
The work will include a serpentine sideboard made of walnut, and an Arts and Crafts desk made using oak from the Windermere garden of influential furniture-maker Stanley Webb Davis.
Peter Hall and Son was started in 1972 by the late Peter Hall. His son Jeremy trained as a cabinet maker and took over the running of the company. Several staff have been with the firm for more than 30 years.
