POLICE say they were called out after three scrap metal thefts in Dalton in just one day.

Officers from Cumbria Constabulary say the metal was removed from insecure rear yards and gardens of residential properties on July 1.

A force spokesman said: “Dalton police would like to remind residents to keep their property and valuables secure at all times and where possible, locked out of sight.”

They are now searching for information about two men spotted in a burgundy or red Transit van in the area of Chapel St and the leisure centre.

One of the men is described as being in his mid-40s and bald. The other was younger and wearing a beany hat.

Anybody with information or who spots suspicious activity in their neighbourhood is asked to contact police on 101.
