ULVERSTON has joined a worldwide food movement to become Cumbria’s first ‘Incredible Edible’ town.
Following the example of Todmorden in West Yorkshire, and partly as a legacy of the Local Food Project at Ford Park, locals will be encouraged to grow, share and sell produce.
Kim Farr, volunteer manager at the park, said: “We had a meeting to launch the project and around 50 people turned up, which was great – they came up with lots of ideas.
“We already have a food swap organised for Easter Monday, we are planning a visit to Todmorden and will have an Incredible Edible week in June.
“There are areas around the town that are neglected and can be brought back into use and have food growing on them so that people can help themselves to it. We plan to get people thinking about making this happen and growing their own food.”
