On the bike track, 40 racers meant that Ambleside Sports set the record for most competitors at any event this season.

Scott Fisher, Ulverston, was the pick of the youngsters, winning the 300m and 800m races while Sam Ross, Penrith, picked up the 500m, 800m and 3,200m titles in the senior competition.

Bob McLean, adjudicator at the event, said: “A lot of youngsters took part. Five riders were under 18 which is good because it’ll keep the sport going. It was also the best prepared the track has ever been.”
