A NEW Ambleside chocolate shop can put a new sign on its gable end, say Lake District planners.

Family business Ye Olde Friars, of Keswick, has recently opened its second store at the former HSBC bank off Ambleside's Market Place.

Lakes Parish Council objected to the proposed timber sign, saying that a proliferation of signage was to be resisted. Ambleside Civic Trust also called for refusal, saying it was too prominent.
