Hundreds of brave cycling souls tackled the famous Tour de Staveley sportive on Saturday in horrendous weather. The 45-mile-long course took in the usual quite ‘rolling’ country lanes of South Lakeland, mixed with three testing climbs of Tow Top, Rusland and the infamous Gummers Howe.

240 riders took up the challenge which celebrates the world's most iconic cycling event – Le Tour de France.

The event is designed as a social sportive ride but there were some fast times despite the weather.

The quickest time from the 10th running of the event was logged by Joshua Granger who completed the route in 2:31:00. Granger's 0:06:03 was also good enough for second quickest on the ascent of Tow Top, but Owen Williams took the spoils there with a time nine seconds faster.

All proceeds of Le Tour de Staveley and the 28-mile Petit Tour will be donated to Kendal Cycling Club to further develop and foster talent from the region.
