A CONTROVERSIAL Kendal housing plan which was refused planning permission earlier this year has been resubmitted.

South Lakeland District Council’s Planning Committee unanimously refused permission for the development of 26 properties at land adjacent to Natland Mill Beck Lane, Kendal, in June. Oakmere Homes has now submitted revised plans for the site.

The new application is again for 26 dwellings with vehicular and pedestrian access, with a covering letter saying: “It is our view that the previous reasons for refusal are fully addressed by this application.”

The plan, which was previously knocked back by councillors, received 57 letters of objection, with concerns raised including the ability of the road to handle increased volumes of traffic; a negative impact on the appearance of land designated as Amenity Open Space; and worries about future flooding issues.

Speaking at the time, Cllr Sylvia Emmott described the proposal as “the most outrageous application I have seen in a long time”.
