The 'Art at Vic Park' event showcased the work of pupils aged from four to 11 who had been experimenting with different art forms.

There were more than 200 art works on display ranging from media to ceramics to silk painting.

All the pieces were for sale, and many were snapped up by parents and family members on the evening.

“The children and staff have felt privileged to take part in something so rare in a primary setting," said deputy headteacher Simon Wilkinson. "We shared ideas with local artists who have enabled these to then become a reality. The children’s eyes have lit up when taking part in these sessions and they are very proud of their place in this project.”

During the lead up to the exhibition, pupils and staff learned new skills supported by professionals such as textiles artist Caren Threlfall and print maker Jamie Barnes.

“It is fantastic to see so many parents and family members coming along to help celebrate the childrens' artistic endeavours," said project co-ordinator Kerry Howarth. "We hope that this exhibition demonstrates how important it is to support pupils’ achievements in the arts as well as other subjects.

"The pupils have been inspired by some of the professional artists they have worked with, and broadened their understanding of what it means to forge a career in the creative sector.”

Staff have also been learning alongside the children with the aim that they can continue to provide a high quality art curriculum in school beyond the life of the project.
