AFTER 15 years the Hawkshead in Bloom team has reluctantly decided to disband. 
In 2002 two ladies from the village started on a small scale to involve local businesses to enhance the properties, shops and pubs in the area.

After encouragement from Cumbria in Bloom to enter their competition the workload increased. After the first year, with the Best Small Village and Tidiest Village Trophy under their belt, two more interested people came forward to help. At the crucial times help was offered from others.

As Cumbria in Bloom winners Hawkshead was put forward to enter Britain in Bloom.

That year Gardeners World had decided to follow a team out of each category. One of the team received a phone call from the BBC. However, as the date was April 1 she immediately assumed it was a hoax. It wasn’t. The rest is history.

Unfortunately, through lack of support and enthusiasm and a depleting population in the village the team can no longer carry on. As they have a reasonable amount of money in the bank the team decided to distribute it to various organisations in the village in need of funding.
