Police were called at 7:14 yesterday (March 5) to the report of a two vehicle collision  on the M6 Southbound just north of Shap (junction 39)

The collison involved a HGV driven by a 54-year-old man and a  Nissan Juke N-Tec  driven by a 26-year-old man from Carlisle. There were no injuries.

The HGV jacknifed and suffered a rupture to its fuel tank, and the Juke left the carriageway attempting to avoid a collision with the HGV and sustained minor damage.

Vehicles were recovered from the scene and the carriageway cleaned to ensure it was safe to be completely reopened. The HGV lost a near full tank of diesel.

One lane remained open throughout the incident.
