ORGANISERS of the late summer shows are hoping for sun to give a boost to the end of the season.
Last week, Brough Agricultural Show was cancelled due to a water-logged field, but the committee at Crosby Ravensworth is hoping for a good turn out tomorrow (Thursday).
Chairman of Brough Show said: “It was with great regret and deep disappointment that Brough Agricultural Society had to cancel the Brough Show for Thursday, August, 21.
“We were optimistic last week that we would be able to go ahead, but inspection of the field on Sunday night and the promise of more rain, caused us to reluctantly change our minds and cancel the show. The field is waterlogged and there is no suitable alternative at this late stage.
“We are obviously going to have to consider alternatives for next year. We know this is a major disappointment to so many who have worked so hard to get their entries ready. The show committee apologises to everyone and is endeavouring to contact all entrants to sort out their entry fees. “We would ask anyone who has entered the show and who has not been contacted to make themselves known to the secretary, Colin Edney, on 017683-42073.
“I would just like to thank Colin Edney and Dot Lyons, the secretary and treasurer, for all the hard work they have put into making the show a success only to have their efforts come to naught.”
Now competitiors will be looking to Crosby Ravensworth tomorrow and Dufton on Saturday, August 30.
