Concern over Kiev mercy visit

FUND-RAISER Pat Wright, of Kendal, has said she is worried that the present turmoil in Ukraine may hinder her efforts to help street children during her next visit to Kiev.

Mrs Wright is to fly out next month to help set up a feeding station for street children. But the country is said to be on the brink of civil war after thousands turned out on the streets for days of protest against the results of an election which many believe to have been rigged.

Mrs Wright said she was not fearful for the former street children who are living in a village near Kiev in the Genesis House, for which Westmorland Gazette readers helped to raise funds, because their foster parents were keeping them out of harm's way.
