A VIDEO game developer will put its pedal to the metal when he cycles home to South Lakeland to raise funds for a good cause in memory of a friend who died of leukaemia.
Daniel Purcell intends to cycle the 400 miles from Guildford, where he lives and works, back to the village of Flookburgh, where he is from.
Daniel lost his good friend Adam Zamoyski to the terminal disease last year, and wants to help Leukaemia and Lymphoma Unit, at University College London Hospitals, which is a world centre of excellence in the treatment and care of patients over 13 with leukaemia, lymphoma and all other haematological disorders.
Daniel, Adam and his brother Andrzej Zamoyski, were as thick as thieves and became videogame developers together.
“You couldn't get us apart from either skating, watching anime and especially playing and making video games,” said Daniel.
“We were all passionate about making games and eventually we came down to work at Lionhead Studios in Guildford together and have always been close friends since, even when we parted to work for different games developers.
So as a personal challenge I'm going to cycle from Guildford where I live and work, to my home village Flookburgh in Cumbria in memory of a good friend Adam. I'm going to be doing it in April over a few days as it's about 400 miles, hopefully through Wales too.
“I will probably be listening to soundtracks to The Legend of Zelda and a bit of Street Fighter to keep me going.”
