About 50 people climbed to the summit of Silverhowe, near Grasmere,to light a Jubilee beacon on Tuesday night at 10.20pm.

Four young people were chosen to light the beacon, using hand-held torches.

They were Jack, a year 7 pupil from Lakes School; Louis and Tom, year 8 pupils from Queen Elizabeth School and Oliver, a year 9 pupil from Keswick Grammar.

The boys and Jack's younger sister, Jessie, helped to carry everything up and set up the beacon.

The night was enjoyed by everyone and ended with a rendition of God Save the Queen.
