Team GB soundly beaten by Serbia in Water Polo
11:28pm Tuesday 31st July 2012 in Cumbria news
By Scott Kirk, Reporter
TEAM GB’s Glen Robinson from Kendal was involved in the 21-7 defeat to one of the world’s best water polo teams Serbia.
Prince William was among thousands of fans in the Water Polo Arena as Britain tired towards the end of the match in hte Olympic Park, allowing the Eastern Europeans to pull clear just before half time.
But Britain will have been delighted to score seven past Serbia, and they were going great guns as they kept up with them to keep the scores level in the first quarter and the beginning of the second.
But five straight points towards the end of the second period put Serbia firmly in the driving seat and it was always going to be a struggle to come back from such a deficit against one of the tournament favourites.
Robinson posted on his Facebook page: “Thanks to everyone who supported us today – you were an amazing crowd!
“We put in our best efforts and for the first half we stayed with them but we just couldn’t hold on.”
