KENDAL County and Keswick will fight it out for the Westmorland Senior Challenge Cup this afternoon at Parkside Road.

Seven-times champions County, who are fifth in Division Two of the West Lancashire Football League, reached the final after a 3-1 success at town rivals United in the semi-final.

They beat Ambleside United 3-0 in their only home match in the competition this season in the quarter-final, gaining revenge for last year’s final defeat, dispatching Burton Thistle and Langwathby in the first two rounds with 7-0 successes in each game.

Meanwhile Keswick, who are currently third in the Bluefin Insurance Westmorland Football League and are just three points off top spot with two games in hand, defeated fellow Westmorland League title challengers Appleby 5-3 in the semi-final.

The 2009 winners of the competition beat another of their league rivals Wetheriggs United 3-0 in the quarter-final thanks to a Richard Bannister double and Jamie Little.

The first two rounds saw Keswick narrowly beating Unisun Athletic 2-1, and Staveley United 3-1.

County’s Joe Baker, Keswick’s Bannister and Kirkoswald’s Sean Elliott are currently tied on five goals each for the top-scorer honour, and the former two players will look to add to their tally in the competition this season.

Kick off is at 3pm for the game.
