ROAD resurfacing work is to be carried out on three main roads in South Lakeland over the coming weeks.

Cumbria County Council will be investing £180,000 in essential maintenance work to replace a worn-out carriageway with a brand new surface on a 1.3km section of the A684 west of Sedbergh.

Resurfacing work between Lincoln’s Inn Bridge and Marlthwaite is scheduled to start on Monday, September 18, and is expected to last for up to 10 nights. The road will be closed from 7pm-5am on weeknights only during this period, to enable resurfacing to be safely carried out. A signed diversion route will be in place.

The county council will also be carrying out works on a 1km stretch of the A65 between Nook and Lupton. The works, which represent a £150,000 investment by the council, are scheduled to start on Monday, October 2, and are expected to last for up to seven nights (including weekend working if necessary). It will be necessary to close the road from 7pm-5am each night during this period to allow the works to be safely carried out. A signed diversion via the A683 will be in place.

A third resurfacing scheme is planned on a 1km section of the A5074 from north of Gilpin Bridge towards the Howe. The county council is investing £130,000 in the works, which have a provisional start date of Monday, October 9. Resurfacing is expected to last for up to seven nights (weeknights only) and the road will be closed between 7pm and 5am each night during this period. A signed diversion via the A592 and A590 will be in place during the closure period.

A spokesperson for CCC said: "The council understands the inconvenience night-time works can cause to residents and businesses and is grateful for the understanding and patience of local communities whilst these vital highway improvement works are carried out. Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum. Resurfacing works are weather dependent and as a result the start dates for works are provisional and subject to change."
