RELATIVES of a teenager found dead in a Furness home say his death has 'left a big hole in the family'.

Police were called to a property on Thursday (October 9) morning by the ambulance service where Kye Backhouse, a 13-year-old Furness Academy pupil, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion on manslaughter and was bailed by Cumbria Police on Saturday evening.

Today, the family of Kye, of Ewan Close, Barrow, paid the following tribute.

“The family are devastated at the sudden loss of Kye," read a statement issued by Cumbria Police.

“Kye was the most amazing and much loved young man that anybody could wish to meet, he made everyone around him smile every day and even now with him gone, he is remembered with a smile.

“The emptiness Kye has left in all our lives can only be understood by people who knew and loved him. We are so very proud of him and miss him deeply.

“We cannot even begin to express our feeling of loss, we ache to hold you once more.

“He was a kind and loving son, brother, grandson, cousin and nephew and a friend to many.

“Kye has left a big hole in the family and things will never be the same again.”

DI Furzana Nazir from Cumbria Constabulary said: “Deaths of young people are thankfully rare in Cumbria and we are working hard to fully investigate the circumstances leading to this boy’s sad death.”
