Ulverston train pranksters labelled 'dangerous'

A YOUNG man who jumped into the path of an oncoming train at Ulverston as a prank has been blasted for his behaviour.

British Transport Police has warned that the ‘unbelievable’ actions of some people could lead to serious harm on the railway.

The incident happened just after midnight on December 11 when the 10pm Manchester Airport to Barrow service approached the station.

PC Allan Fernie said: “As the train pulled into the station the driver noticed a group of young men on the platform.

“One of the group leapt from the platform onto the tracks and waved his arms at the oncoming train before climbing back onto the platform.

“The driver remonstrated with the men once the train had come to a full stop and refused them travel on the service. The men then left the station.”

PC Fernie added: “This behaviour is simply unbelievable and I cannot stress enough just how dangerous this is.

“There is little doubt that, had the man been unable to get back onto the platform, he would have been struck by the train which, even at slow speeds, could have caused serious – if not life threatening – injuries.

“I have released the CCTV image of several men as I believe they were at the station at the time and may have key information in relation to the incident.

“Quite apart from this being extremely foolhardy and dangerous, the man has also committed a criminal act and BTP will do everything in its power to trace him and take all appropriate action.”
