Kendal Warriors 61

Barrow Thorns 91

COMING off the back of a lacklustre display against Lockerbie last week Kendal Warriors were looking to get their season back on track as they faced last season’s undefeated champions Barrow Thorns.

Early on Phil Mason found the opportunity to run the fast break with some success but a nervous Kendal turned the ball over too often and allowed Barrow to capitalise with scores of their own.

Keith McInnes was in good scoring form as his baskets tried to fend off the onslaught of the Barrow offence.

Kendal tried to respond through some tough, physical defence typified by Mike Smith and Kevin Mason but the visitors own defence was paying particular attention to Gareth France and Mathias Basedow which resulted in them neutralising Kendal's offensive threat.

Trailing 55-30 at half time, Kendal continued to be apprehensive with the ball but a new-found urgency on defence kept Barrow at bay.

With Gareth France finally finding his scoring form and Kon Arfanis finding himself on the end of some long passes which produced some good scores, Kendal ended the game in a positive manner but were left to reflect on what could have been if they had played like this for the majority of the game as they went down 91-61.

Scorers: P Mason 19; G France 12; K McInnes 10; K Mason 7; K Arfanis 6; M Basedow 5; M Smith 2.
