POLICE have confirmed that a 28-year-old man from Barrow has died following an assault in the town.

Three people have been arrested and a murder inquiry is now underway following the death of David James Morgan.

He was assaulted at around 3.30am on Tuesday, in the Mount Pleasant and Church Street area, and was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital.

Police confirmed that he died from his injuries yesterday afternoon.

They say three local people - a 21-year-old female, a 28-year-old male and a 31-year-old male - are currently being detained at Barrow Police Station on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob Qazi, who is leading the investigation, said: "There were a number of people present in the street and it may be that local residents have heard a disturbance going on.

"I would urge anyone who has information, and who has not already come forward to the police, to contact us as soon as possible so we can resolve exactly what happened to David and caused his tragic death.”
