MORE than 20 Furness youngsters gained an insight into engineering careers when they went with their parents to work at BAE Systems.
Students from Dalton and Ulverston visited the Barrow site as part of the company’s Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day, which is held globally.
Experiencing the activities which form the working day for their parents, youngsters were given a behind-the-scenes tour and saw where the Astute class submarines are being constructed.
It is the tenth year BAE Systems has hosted the day for 14 to 16-year-olds.
Claire Haughian, corporate responsibility adviser at Submarines, said: “It is so important we continue to find innovative ways to inspire young people about the exciting and diverse possibilities of careers in the fields of engineering and technology.
“With so many skilled professionals required to meet anticipated future demand we need to ensure a strong pipeline of young people who are keen to pursue these types of careers.”
