WORK has been undertaken to make Appleby Guide Hut flood resilient.
Flood gates have been installed on all three doors, air bricks have been put in place and non-return valves added to sewage and drain pipes.
The work was funded fully by a grant of £5,000 from Cumbria Community Foundation and the work has been completed by Ian Cannon Ltd of Plumpton.
A Facebook group for volunteers has been set up to organise the installation of flood gates when Environment Agency flood warnings are issued.
The hut was flooded in 2005 and during Storm Desmond it was engulfed by more than one metre of water.
It took almost a year to organise and undertake refurbishment work but the result is a bright, smart, warm well-resourced building," said Kathryn Nunn, chair of Appleby Friends of Guiding.
During that time the five Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Senior Section units and other groups that use the hut had to find alternative accommodation.
