Police and partner agencies confirmed on Friday evening that the incident concerning an ordnance device found in Appleby is over.

The incident followed the recovery of a World War II ordnance relic.

Police were called at 12.06pm on August 12 following the discovery outside an address at Bongate, Appleby.

A 400m cordon, that was put in place as a precautionary measure, was removed yesterday evening.

People within the cordon were asked to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed, however police reassured the public that there was no further risk and that they could return to normal.

Public Health England advised there is no risk to health, however if people are concerned they should call NHS 111 for advice.

A bomb disposal team from Catterick attended, assessed the situation and took the relic away.
