SOME of the biggest names in dance music will descend on Cumbria this Autumn as a remote Eden club takes on a new lease of life.

The Grand Prix club, in Brough, will play host to some huge acts including Krafty Kuts, Evil Nine, Plump DJs, Stanton Warriors, Linton Brown and Ash Howell.

The club has been taken on by Kendal Calling directors Ben Robinson and Andy Smith under the Calling Out banner.

Working alongside their brothers Jamie Smith and Simon Robinson, the young entrepreneurs have already organised a series of unusual gigs across the county including Tan Hill festival in May and the Frank Turner gig at The Brewery, in Kendal, this month.

"Myself, Andy, Jamie and Simon are taking on Brough Grand Prix Club as a project for a year from September so we're not giving ourselves much time off after Kendal Calling as we're straight onto the next thing,” said Ben.

“The first Saturday of every month we're putting on a new night called Glow on at the club and we've already got Evil Nine, Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors and Craig Charles for a Christmas special.

“It's really exciting and we're hoping people will travel from all over Cumbria to come to the night. The Stanton Warriors in Brough...that's quite an idea isn't it!”

In December, Kendal Calling favourite Craig Charles will bring his funk and soul club to the venue for a special Christmas show.

But apart from bringing some big names to the venue, the boys hope to create a showcase for local talent.

"We're acutely aware that as Kendal Calling has grown and we've had stricter noise level regulations we've not been able to put on as many local DJs that we would have liked,” said Ben.

“We're hoping that by having the club night we can give local artists a platform alongside some of the big name acts. We only put people on at Kendal Calling that we've seen play so we're hoping that we'll get to know more artists and perhaps they can feed into the main festival.

"Brough club was the first place I ever put on a gig and I know it's got many special memories for people in the area so we're really looking forward to getting it going again.”
