TINTED bus windows are spoiling one of Cumbria’s most beautiful bus journeys according to a disgruntled passenger.

Author Paul Buttle says ‘wrap-around’ advertising on buses on the 564 route from Brough to Kendal is obscuring the view of Eden’s wild countryside.

“That journey is one of the best in the Lakes but now they’ve tinted the windows and there’s not much light.

"All you can see is a mesh,” said 64-year-old Mr Buttle.

Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire fitted the advertising from Lancaster Pine Company on the bus four months ago.

It is one of five in their fleet which feature advertising covering the windows.

“I really hope they remove it because they’re at serious risk from losing customers,” said Mr Buttle.

Steve Sutton, of Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire, said: “We have had no complaints from customers since installing the advertising, and many people think it makes the buses look very smart.”

He added: “The adverts help revenue in the current climate and therefore keep fares down.

"I don’t believe we have lost any passengers.”
