South Lakeland District Council is inviting residents to come along to the opening of the new Hallgarth play area at Kendal.

SLDC’s Chairman, Cllr Sylvia Emmott, will officially open the playground which has recently been rejuvenated thanks to £55,000 of funding secured by the Hallgarth Community Centre Association, with contributions from SLDC and Kendal Town Council.

The event, running from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday, September 1, is open to anyone and there will be refreshments, a DJ, and organised games.

SLDC will also be asking for people’s opinions about further improvements to the remainder of the recreation ground - this will include ideas to replace the worn out zip wire, paths, seats and new planting.

There will be opportunity at the opening for young people (11-17year-olds) from Hallgarth, to sign-up to a graffiti art workshop being held at the park on Wednesday, September, 2, from 5pm until 8pm.

The aim of the workshop is to find out what artwork the young people want on the MUGA, and they will get to have a go at creating their own artwork and learn about responsible graffiti.

The Hallgarth Community Centre Association and SLDC have spent £55,000 on developing the park, including a new outdoor gym style area, a toddler and junior playground and an area for teenagers.

Cllr Emmott, said: "I am honoured and delighted to be invited to the opening of this new play facility, which caters for all ages, from toddlers to teenagers and indeed adults who may choose to use the outdoor gym.

“Young people and children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury, but a necessity and this is an amazing facility."
