AMBLESIDE Together’s weekend Festival of the Fells from September 22-25, was given an enthusiastic welcome at a public meeting last week, with plans for films, music and talks, guided swims in lakes and tarns, and organised walks at high and low levels.

The group’s Love Ambleside logo is appearing on banners and window stickers around the town, and attracting a big following on social media.

A website will also be launched to promote local activities and and attract visitors back after the floods, including outside the main holiday periods.

The meeting was chaired by Clive Hutchby who said he hoped the festival would become an annual event particularly as Ambleside is at the heart of the fells, with the highest concentration of outdoor shops anywhere in Europe and walks from the doorstep onto some of the finest mountains.

The festival will include a half-iron distance triathlon, including a fell race finale around the Fairfield Horseshoe.

Weekly planning meetings will take place at the Regent Hotel, Waterhead, on Mondays at 5pm when businesses wishing to become involved will be most welcome, or email loveambleside@gmail.com
