A NEW destination brand has been created for Kendal, with a view to helping the town have a unified style.

The project, which was unveiled on Monday, was developed by Kendal Futures in partnership with the town’s stakeholders, organisations and businesses with funding from the Kendal Business Improvement District and South Lakeland District Council.

"Our action plan identified that Kendal lacked a unified brand," said Paula Scott, project co-ordinator for Kendal Futures. "We don't want to replace the great brands of Kendal companies. We just want Kendal companies to think about including this branding as well.

"The toolkit will be available to use for free and will include style guidelines and an image library that we will build up."

The new brand for Kendal was created by Cactus Creative and aims to promote Kendal as ‘more than a market town’ which has a distinctive offer for visitors, businesses and local people.

It was funded by a £5,000 grant contributed to by Kendal Bid and South Lakeland District Council. This grant covered the costs of the development and consultation process, brand workshops and the artwork being produced.

The brand has been designed to reflect Kendal’s heritage of a traditional market town built on the wool trade, that has developed into a diverse cultural hub. The logo is itself inspired by woollen threads being fed on to a loom.

The launch of the branding for Kendal took place at The MintWorks in the town and was attended by partners and stakeholders as well as festival organisers and design companies who it is hoped will use the brand in future.

Businesses and organisations in Kendal will be encouraged to use the branding and associated positive wording to promote Kendal in their own promotional material and on websites.
