PUPILS of Hawkshead Primary School gathered at a special assembly with acting head teacher Paula Bowen to present Dr Kaye Ward with jars of pennies that they have collected throughout the summer holidays.
The sum of £251 has been collected for the Hawkshead Patients Community Health Fund.
Dr Ward thanked the children for helping to fund important pieces of equipment and furniture for the new surgery, which is currently being constructed.
“It’s especially vital for the older people in the community and for mums with young babies who may not be able to travel far to visit the doctors,” he said.
The jars were provided to the children by the Hawkshead Relish Company and David Mann of Patterson’s Glassware.
The doctors and the PPG have worked hard over the past couple of years to save the surgery from potential closure. They amalgamated with Ambleside and Grasmere earlier in the year to form the Central Lakes Medical Practice and secure the future for the Hawkshead Surgery.
The fund raising is aiming to reach a target of £35,000 to equip and furnish the newly-built facility in Hawkshead Village.
