Settlebeck High School at Sedbergh says it is extremely pleased with its GCSE results this year and especially so of students’ achievements in English. Two students achieved 9s in both English Literature and English Language, which puts them amongst the best in the country.

The school said its 'fantastic set of results' was the culmination of three years of hard work from both students and staff.

Outgoing head teacher Karen Grant said: “I have always been so proud of our students. This year 11 have been an absolute pleasure to teach and I wish them all the very best for the future.”

Head teacher Sarah Campbell said: "The fantastic results achieved are a culmination of three years of hard work by the students and their staff. They should all be extremely proud of their achievements. This is an exciting time for this vibrant school which is going from strength to strength.

"We are particularly proud of these students and their outstanding results - Cara Ellis 2 ‘9s’/A*s and 6As; Jenny Lomax 9A*s and 3As and Izzie 3A*s and 4As."
