WORK has begun to repair the leaky roof of St Mark’s Church.

This is a major repair scheme and will include refurbishment of all roof gutters and drainpipes.

At the same time the flag pole will be moved and attached to a parapet wall rather than keeping it in the centre of the roof where the leak is worst.

The works will cost £100,000 using funds raised for the project and a generous legacy from David Lowery, of Leeds, who was an old boy of St Mark’s Home and who cherished his memories of Natland.

The clock will also be repaired and reinstated while the scaffolding is up.
The work is due to be finished by the first week in June.

As part of ongoing maintenance and upkeep there may be some levelling of the churchyard in the next month or so.

To aid with mowing and helping to keep the churchyard looking tidy, wreaths and floral tributes that have perished will be removed.
