Olympic torch heads for Lake District

THE route to be taken by the Olympic Torch was discussed by Lakes Parish Council.

The Torch, which is predicted to have an 80-vehicle convoy, reaches Grasmere on Thursday, June 21 at 5.38pm, when traffic will be stopped by a series of rolling road closures, with parking and parking bays suspended.

The torch will be greeted in Broadgate Meadow before heading for Ambleside on the A591 leaving at 6.02pm on board an open-top bus as far as the bottom of Greenbank Road.

Bearers will take over through Ambleside, each running 300 yards.

The torch arrives at Lake Road at 6.28pm, and heads down Wansfell Road, along Borrans Road to reach Borrans Park and then Waterhead Pier at 6.43pm to board The Tern.

The torch will leave Bowness early next morning along the A591 for Kendal.
