EIGHT allotments have been opened in a Lake District village.

Two years ago, the Grasmere Crucible Community decided it wanted to open allotments in the village.

A ceremony on Saturday marked the official opening of the allotments that have been rented to eight families.

Chair of the group Melissa Harwood said: “Everything we earn will go back into supporting the local community.

"We wanted to work on a project which would support sustainability for future generations.”

Owner of the Wordsworth Hotel, based in Grasmere, Iain Garside. donated land to the project and various local groups gave grants to help fund the project.
