Gardeners spring into action at Rusland

First published in Ulverston news

NEW classes were a feature of this year’s Rusland Spring Show, which was held in a 50-foot marquee next to the village Reading Room.

There was a big display of hellebores among the ‘glorious varieties’ of daffodils and narcissi that are always a feature of the show. Humorous limericks jostled with amazing Simnel cakes and pasche eggs while the many children’s classes provided an opportunity to enter Olympic posters and maps of Treasure Island.

The trophy for most points in the show was won by Dorothy Barton. The Thelma Kellgren Trophy for the most outstanding exhibit by a child was awarded to Amelia Thompson, who won prizes with her decorated hat for a street party, poster for the Olympics and an Olympic medal decorated biscuit.
