CHILDREN dressed up in costumes to represent countries of their choice to celebrate Diversity Day at Casterton, Sedbergh Preparatory School.

Pupils from nursery to year eight were all involved in sessions which included aboriginal art, Brazilian workshops, Indian dance, African drumming and workshops about differences and acceptance.

Head of lower school, Helen Dootson, said: "Assemblies during the previous week focused on how we are all special and how within diversity, there is beauty and strength. The PSHE lessons focused on individuality and differences so it was only right that we joined in the celebration of Diversity Day in the Michaelmas term.

"The children dressed up in a costume to represent a country of their choice and there has been great ingenuity and talent shown in the design of the costumes. On the day we prepared events to get the children thinking about different cultures and diversity.

"The children enjoyed the day but also had time to reflect on how different cultures make up our world.”

Rosie Bishop, six, said: “It’s great to have a day of pure fun like this, to have some different food and to really be able to put your imagination into something new.”
