NATIONAL Grid has worked with pupils at Old Hutton Primary School to make sure they can enjoy their playground, whatever the weather.

The energy company, which is upgrading its substation in the area, donated £10,000 to Old Hutton Pre-School after learning that its playground becomes waterlogged during the winter months. The money has been used to level the play area, lay an all-weather surface and install a brand new drainage system.

Over the next couple of weeks, finishing touches will be made to the playground, including putting up greenhouses and learning aids, such as alphabet boards nearby.

Paul Edwards, chairman of Old Hutton Pre-School, said: “I’d like to thank National Grid for its kind donation. The children love their new play area and it’s fantastic that they can now use it every day. Improvements like this are essential for small local schools like this but they’re very expensive so we’re all very, very pleased for National Grid’s help and for the work done.”
