GRASMERE School is celebrating after receiving praise from education watchdog Ofsted.

Under a new rigorous framework, the inspection saw the overall rating reduce from outstanding to good, with some outstanding features.

Headteacher Jo Goode said: “It’s wonderful to see our ambitions recognised by Ofsted. We try to nurture confident learners, who fully respect others and love life. That’s what we’re all about at Grasmere, building that independence and sense of purpose."

The report recognised that children are safe, happy and inspired.

“The school’s work to keep pupils safe and secure is outstanding," the report reads.

The inspector also said: "Pupils’ behaviour is outstanding, they show high levels of care and respect for one another and the adults around them."

In their learning, children make 'good progress overall, and excellent progress for some pupils,' because 'teachers provide exciting learning experiences for pupils that help them to learn well.'

Michael McGregor, chair of governors, added: “We’ll keep striving for excellence. We have a wonderful, talented team. It is great to know that everything in our school is good or outstanding."

Inspectors gave good gradings to leadership and management, quality of teaching and achievement of pupils while pupils' behaviour and the school's early years provision attracted outstanding ratings.

Parent Martin Campbell said: "I'm really happy that my son goes to Grasmere school with its wonderful bunch of supportive teachers. It's lovely to see the kids out and about exploring the village and its surroundings."
