SOUTH Lakeland was well represented at the National Association of Head Teachers annual conference.

Maggie Cole, head teacher of St Thomas's School, Kendal (pictured), and Tanya Hughes, head of Milnthorpe Primary School, were among key figures at the conference, which helped to lay out teaching policies for the coming academic year.

Politicians Tristram Hunt, David Laws and Nicky Morgan were questioned on educational issues.

"It is clear that politicians recognise and respect the work of the NAHT and take guidance from the NAHT to shape national policy. It is important that we continue to work on behalf of our schools and our communities to shape policy and improve the outcomes for all children," said Ms Hughes.

Ms Cole said: "Headteachers need to continue to work collaboratively with each other, Ofsted and the Government in the ever changing landscape of education to ensure that children in all schools succeed."
