PUPILS in Years 5 and 6 at St Oswald’s CE Primary School, Burneside, were presented with their John Muir awards on Monday.
The awards were achieved through activities carried out by children in the Lake District whereby they had to discover, explore, conserve and then share information about wild places.
They did this work during an outdoor residential at Hawse End in the Borrowdale Valley, near Keswick, with Cumbria Outdoors. All the information was disseminated by the children through the school’s global links via the class wikispace http://humbleclass.wikispaces.com
The awards were presented by the chairman of the Lake District National Park Authority, Mike McKinley, Dr Will Williams, trustee of the John Muir Trust and Graham Watson, also of the John Muir Trust. Cumbria Outdoors was represented at the ceremony by Gavin Smallbone.
