SIXTEEN young people from Year 9 have successfully applied to be Queen Katherine School ambassadors to support the school’s anti-bullying initiative. The young people have attended some peer mentor training to help them prepare for the role.

The training involved discussing hopes and fears for their new role and identifying what strengths they could bring to the position.

They also learnt a variety of different skills to help them in the job and there was a discussion about what bullying actually means and how to deal with it.

The ambassadors said they all wanted to make sure that people were happy and safe.

Head teacher Jon Hayes said: "At The Queen Katherine School, we pride ourselves on supporting others whether in our local, national or international community.

"We’ve all been very pleased with the positive response we have had from our students when we let them know about the QKS ambassadors.

"In such a busy time for them with GCSE options on the horizon, as well as the issues caused by the floods, the fact they are determined to put their concerns to one side to help others reflect what outstanding young people they are.

"These selfless actions not only show great leadership, but also humility and compassion."
