WENNINGTON Hall School near Kirkby Lonsdale was placed runner up for Best Workplace Setting in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) No Smoking Day Campaigner of the Year competition.

To mark No Smoking Day, staff and pupils from the school travelled to the British Heart Foundation shop in Blackpool where they created an informative stand, made in conjunction with smoking cessation projects at the school. It included literature, statistics, leaflets and posters relating to No Smoking Day.

The team from the school interacted all day with the public, offering carbon monoxide monitoring, and referral letters which could be taken, with their reading attached, to the Stop Smoking services available locally in Blackpool.

Head teacher Joe Prendergast said: “Over the years both pupils and staff have worked extremely hard, not only to help people who have this addiction within the school, but also in the wider community.

“The success of this project speaks for itself. We are very proud that this work has been recognised.”

Wennington Hall School boasts a nationally recognised smoking cessation programme, available to both pupils and staff. They have two fully-qualified stop smoking advisors, who are on hand every break time in the aptly named ‘Ash Lodge’ to give support and advice.
