AS FAR as summer shows go they don't come much more feelgood and fun packed than this year's Queen Katherine School musical.

In fact, the whole Brewery could be singing and swinging along to the Kendal school's end of term production - Summer Holiday.

Running at the Kendal arts centre from Tuesday, June 19 until Friday, June 22 (7pm), the stage show is based on the hit 1960s movie that starred Cliff Richard.

It tells of Don - originally played by Cliff in the film - and his friends, Steve, Cyril and Edwin, who take off on a jolly across Europe in a red double decker bus.

The musical follows their dazzling Summer Holiday adventure, with plenty of laughter, hit songs and, of course, romance.

Along the way they pick up and travel with a girl band, Do Re Mi, and Barbara, a young American pop star who is running away from home, and in particular, from her very pushy mother, Stella and her agent, Jerry.

Barbara stows away on board the bus dressed as a boy named Bobby.

Having traced Barbara's location via a telephone call Stella and Jerry set off in pursuit.

On discovering Bobby is actually Barbara, mayhem ensues as lead character, Don, has fallen for Barbara, and the guys and gals cross through Switzerland, Italy and into Greece trying to keep one step ahead of Barbara's mother.

Summer Holiday is end to end pop classics with tunes such as In the Country, Summer Holiday, Bachelor Boy, Move it, Living Doll, The Young Ones and On the Beach.

QKS head of performing arts, Caroline Barber, is yet again wearing the director/producer's hat, ably supported by head of music, Robbie Greer, dance teacher Emma Kinlock, music and drama A level students and technician Colin Tulley, who created the bus.

"What a gem Summer Holiday has turned out to be," enthuses Caroline.

"It is not a musical that is often undertaken, and I am not sure why.

"Every song is a classic, and it has the potential for the usual big QKS ensemble numbers, some fantastic main roles, lots of humour and is guaranteed to get the audience dancing in the aisles."

Year 12 student Alex Milburn is in the spotlight as lead Don with the boys roles played by Joe Hurn, Frankie Jamieson and Sam Keech.

Amber Stock Hutton plays Barbara; year 10 students Aliyah Rennison, Tyler Crook and Libby Kay hit the high notes as the Do-Re-Mi singers.

And apparently, year 12 students Cerys Latham and Joe Gilson Park playing Stella and Jerry is a classic comic double act not-to-be-missed.

Performances start at 7pm.

Tickets are available from the Brewery box office on 01539-725133.
