CUMBRIA Wildlife Trust (CWT) is encouraging local people to respond to a government consultation on whether Allonby Bay and West of Walney should be designated as Marine Conservation Zones.
The UK's seas are home to half of all the country's wildlife but conservationists worry that ‘out of sight is out of mind’ and so CWT has created a film to inspire people to act. The film features footage of Irish Sea wildlife such as anemones, lobsters, prawns and seals and can be watched online at www.irishsea.org.
Emily Baxter, Marine Conservation Officer for CWT, says: “This is a once in a lifetime chance for people to help to create a nature reserve where they live. Unfortunately marine wildlife often doesn’t get the protection it deserves.”
Information is available at www.irishsea.org.
