THE National Sheep Association is backing calls for a national dog DNA database to help farmers track an animal's owners in the event of an attack on livestock.
The organisation wants to see dogs DNA tested at the same time they are microchipped when that process becomes compulsory in the UK from April 6 next year.
NSA chief executive Phil Stocker said DNA testing would be 'another tool in the toolbox' for livestock farmers.
